This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.
• Act as the privacy subject matter expert to ensure OhioHealth's adherence to relevant federal and state privacy regulations, including HIPAA.
• Function as the Privacy Officer for OhioHealthy.
• Address inquiries, concerns, and allegations related to privacy law and regulatory noncompliance.
• Engage with patients, government officials, community members, and workforce personnel.
• Conduct and oversee privacy investigations, which include interviews, fact collection, audit-log review, root-cause analysis, resolution coordination, documentation, and the development of corrective action plans.
• Execute and/or supervise ePHI audits utilizing a machine-learning software tool.
• Create and implement privacy training, educational programs, and awareness initiatives, including both annual and initial workforce privacy education.
• Take part in risk assessments and devise and implement controls to minimize privacy risks.
• Attend and actively contribute to governance and other committees, representing the privacy team and offering guidance.
• Identify and assess privacy risks and issues, assisting in the design of solutions and risk management strategies.
• Monitor, analyze, and compile privacy data, preparing reports for leadership and governance entities.
• Draft or revise relevant policies.
• Collaborate with Information Security, the Office of the General Counsel, Human Resources, and various departments.
• Perform additional tasks as requested by leadership.
• A Bachelor's Degree is required in Business, Health Information Management, Law, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in healthcare privacy or equivalent experience is necessary.
• Achieve Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certification in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS), or Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) within the first year of employment.
• Possess knowledge and experience with HIPAA and other privacy regulations.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting investigations.
• Experience in performing audits of electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI).
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with the EPIC electronic medical record system.
• Proven ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within inter- and intra-departmental teams.
• High level of integrity and business acumen.
• Excellent leadership, influencing, and relationship-building skills.
• Proven track record of fostering collaboration among diverse team members; nurturing individuals and teams through feedback, coaching, delegating, empowering, and clearing obstacles.
• Six (6) years or more of progressive related work experience or a degree inclusive of five (5) years of relevant healthcare experience.
• A Master's Degree is preferred.
• Experience in ePHI auditing is preferred.
