This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Act as the main legal advisor for APA divisions and business units by offering daily legal guidance, compliance assistance, initial reviews, and practical risk management strategies for non-crisis operational issues.
• Assist APA personnel, Divisions, Committees, programs, and governance stakeholders by recognizing, summarizing, and clarifying intricate or unclear legal matters.
• Oversee the contract review process for designated APA issues, which encompasses reviewing, drafting, and occasionally negotiating APA contracts.
• Collaborate with APA revenue-generating teams to pinpoint legal and business risks, suggest practical modifications, support timely contract finalization, and provide ongoing program counsel and operational approval assistance.
• Offer legal assistance for government contracts and grants, which includes examining funding agreements, grant conditions, compliance requirements, and operational risks.
• Deliver litigation support, including the development of internal facts and coordination of document collection.
• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active member in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar or a state bar where the individual can waive into DC.
• A minimum of five (5) years of legal practice experience.
• Required experience in non-profit, association governance, contracts lifecycle management, and grants (including governmental—federal and other public entities—and private), corporate compliance, and litigation support.
• Preferred familiarity with election law, exempt organization law, and general legal advisory services.
• Outstanding analytical and critical thinking abilities.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
