Assistant Director – Strategic Communications and Content

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement strategic communications that further GLAD Law’s legal and policy objectives.

• Foster public awareness of LGBTQ+ rights among diverse and sometimes conflicted audiences.

• Enhance GLAD Law’s prominence as a premier organization focused on LGBTQ+ legal rights.

• Compose, edit, and polish event speeches, press releases, media statements, advocacy emails, newsletter articles, fact sheets, FAQs, blog posts, website content, and digital media materials.

• Simplify court rulings, legislative actions, and regulatory developments into easily understandable language.

• Maintain a cohesive organizational voice while adjusting tone and style to suit different audiences and contexts.

• Contribute to the development of messaging frameworks, narrative strategies, and communication plans.

• Collaborate with various departments to align litigation, policy, and development objectives.

• Build and nurture relationships with journalists, editors, content creators, and media producers.

• Address press inquiries, pitch stories, arrange interviews, and prepare spokespersons.

• Track media coverage and manage the organization’s public representation.

• Supervise communications interns.

• Collaborate closely with communications, digital media, legal, and organizational leadership teams.


⛳️ Requirements

• At least six years of professional experience in communications, journalism, public affairs, message development, or a related field, demonstrating increasing responsibility and expertise in writing across diverse formats.

• Outstanding writing skills that are clear, accessible, and engaging, even under tight deadlines.

• Strong editing and proofreading capabilities.

• Experience in communications, messaging, and narrative strategies that promote deeper understanding.

• Familiarity with the evolving media and information landscape.

• Sound media judgment and the ability to respond swiftly in a fast-paced media environment.

• Proven dedication to LGBTQ+ rights and racial justice.

• Preferred background in legal, advocacy, policy, or nonprofit communications.

• Ability to take initiative, think creatively and strategically, collaborate cross-functionally, and excel in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.

• Commitment to civil rights and alignment with GLAD Law’s mission and organizational values.

• Capacity to thrive in a diverse multicultural setting.
