This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.
• In the role of Assistant Corporate Controller at Owlet, you will play a crucial part in influencing our financial trajectory. We seek an experienced accounting professional with a successful history in scaling high-growth public companies. This position requires a strategic thinker with outstanding financial expertise and a dedication to building and refining intricate financial systems.
• Review journal entries to ensure they are accurate, complete, and supported by adequate documentation.
• Grant final approval for journal entries, showcasing ownership and accountability.
• Supervise the preparation and assessment of account reconciliations, ensuring they are complete, accurate, discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner, and documentation is proper.
• Set and uphold clear standards for account reconciliation processes, encouraging consistency and control.
• Ensure strict compliance with GAAP, offering guidance and interpretation of accounting standards to the accounting team.
• Take a key role in preparing and reviewing all SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, etc.), ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and reporting requirements.
• Assist in preparing disclosure footnotes, ensuring they are accurate and comply with SEC regulations.
• Support the tie-out process for financial statements and footnotes, including verification of supporting documentation.
• Aid in the external audit process by providing timely and precise responses to auditor inquiries and requests.
• Offer direct supervision, mentorship, and guidance to the accounting team, cultivating a collaborative and high-performing atmosphere.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations, deliver constructive feedback, and identify growth opportunities for team members.
• Effectively manage team workload, prioritize tasks, and ensure deadlines are met promptly.
• Participate in recruiting and onboarding new team members, ensuring the team possesses the necessary skills and expertise.
• Encourage open communication and collaboration within the team and across departments, ensuring effective information sharing.
• Address and resolve team conflicts professionally and in a timely fashion.
• Identify and propose opportunities for process improvements.
• Facilitate the standardization of processes across the team to generate efficiencies.
• Assist in implementing technological solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
• Support the remediation of identified control deficiencies.
• Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance activities, including preparing the company for SOX 404(b) standards.
• Collaborate with business leaders to provide financial insights and support strategic initiatives.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including investors, lenders, and board members.
• REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Proven experience in an accounting role, ideally within a public company context.
• Strong understanding of GAAP.
• Familiarity with financial systems, with NetSuite being preferred.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in reviewing the work of others.
• Background in a position with team leadership responsibilities.
• CPA certification.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• At least 8 years of accounting experience, combining public accounting (Big 4) and industry experience is preferred.
