Assistant Controller

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Supervise and oversee all accounting functions with two direct reports.

• Manage daily accounting tasks, encompassing journal entries, account reconciliations, and maintenance of the general ledger.

• Process payroll on a bi-weekly basis.

• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management operations.

• Develop and uphold internal controls and accounting policies.

• Lead account analysis and investigate variances.

• Identify and implement AI-driven accounting tools and workflow automations.

• Execute month-end closing procedures and prepare closing schedules.

• Manage accruals, prepayments, and adjustments at the end of each period.

• Consolidate financial information and prepare preliminary results for management review.

• Resolve month-end discrepancies in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

• Take ownership of revenue recognition under ASC 606 and validate revenue transactions, contracts, and performance obligations.

• Calculate and record revenue adjustments, deferred revenue, and reclassifications of revenue.

• Prepare schedules related to revenue and documentation for audits.

• Work alongside RevOps on billing and integration tasks impacting revenue.

• Assist the Controller in liaising with external auditors and coordinating audit activities.

• Prepare schedules for audits, trial balances, and supporting documentation.

• Address findings from auditors and implement necessary corrective actions.

• Manage audit timelines and respond to audit requests.

• Assist with requests for federal, state, and local tax returns.

• Maintain tax schedules, accruals, and relevant documentation.

• Monitor and report on payroll tax and sales tax items.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting.

• A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, including 2 years in a role as Assistant Controller.

• Experience in mentoring and training within a team setting.

• Proven expertise in managing month-end close processes with accounting reports.

• Advanced understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition and SaaS accounting.

• Hands-on experience with NetSuite and proficiency in accounting automation.

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and the ability to manage complex datasets.

• Demonstrated experience in applying AI or automation tools to enhance accounting processes.

• Experience in a rapidly growing SaaS or subscription-based enterprise.

• CPA certification is a plus.

• Preference for candidates with public accounting experience.

• Preferred proficiency in leveraging AI tools to automate accounting processes.

• Familiarity with subscription management and billing platforms, such as Chargebee and Zuora, is preferred.

• High proficiency in NetSuite is preferred.

• Knowledge of NetSuite, Chargebee, Stripe, Avalara, Airbase, Ramp, Rippling, and Claude.ai is an advantage.
