
Assessment Specialist β Closed Captioning, FCC Compliance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
β’ Assess the accuracy, synchronicity, completeness, and positioning of closed captions.
β’ Conduct testing on live, linear, and on-demand content as necessary.
β’ Detect issues related to caption timing, truncation, speaker attribution, and placement.
β’ Collect test evidence and document defects with detailed reproduction steps and severity ratings.
β’ Evaluate the accessibility and usability of caption display options, including discoverability, customization features, consistency across applications and inputs, preview functionality, and interaction via standard remote controls.
β’ Create and implement test plans aligned with FCC standards, generate compliance assessment reports with remediation suggestions, validate corrections, and work collaboratively with QA, engineering, product, and compliance teams.
β’ Over 5 years of experience in accessibility testing, QA, compliance testing, or video/TV device evaluation.
β’ Practical experience in assessing the quality of closed captioning.
β’ Strong knowledge of FCC closed captioning principles, including accuracy, synchronicity, completeness, and placement.
β’ Experience testing physical television devices using remote controls.
β’ Capability to document findings clearly, backed by supporting evidence.
β’ Excellent written communication and reporting abilities.
β’ Experience with testing smart TVs, set-top boxes, or streaming devices (preferred).
β’ Familiarity with caption customization features and UI discoverability testing (preferred).
β’ Understanding of CVAA or device-level accessibility requirements (preferred).
β’ Accessibility or QA certifications (CPACC, WAS, or similar) (preferred).
