Assessment Specialist – Closed Captioning, FCC Compliance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Assess the accuracy, synchronicity, completeness, and positioning of closed captions.

• Conduct testing on live, linear, and on-demand content as necessary.

• Detect issues related to caption timing, truncation, speaker attribution, and placement.

• Collect test evidence and document defects with detailed reproduction steps and severity ratings.

• Evaluate the accessibility and usability of caption display options, including discoverability, customization features, consistency across applications and inputs, preview functionality, and interaction via standard remote controls.

• Create and implement test plans aligned with FCC standards, generate compliance assessment reports with remediation suggestions, validate corrections, and work collaboratively with QA, engineering, product, and compliance teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in accessibility testing, QA, compliance testing, or video/TV device evaluation.

• Practical experience in assessing the quality of closed captioning.

• Strong knowledge of FCC closed captioning principles, including accuracy, synchronicity, completeness, and placement.

• Experience testing physical television devices using remote controls.

• Capability to document findings clearly, backed by supporting evidence.

• Excellent written communication and reporting abilities.

• Experience with testing smart TVs, set-top boxes, or streaming devices (preferred).

• Familiarity with caption customization features and UI discoverability testing (preferred).

• Understanding of CVAA or device-level accessibility requirements (preferred).

• Accessibility or QA certifications (CPACC, WAS, or similar) (preferred).
