This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Create and sustain a comprehensive, evolving perspective of enterprise infrastructure, services, and architectural frameworks, assisting teams in grasping how systems integrate today and their future trajectories.
• Define and convey architectural principles that embody how the organization constructs and manages systems—rooted in practical experiences across teams rather than imposed directives.
• Recognize gaps, redundancies, and friction points within the technology ecosystem, collaborating with service owners and engineering teams to identify opportunities for simplification, consolidation, or new collective capabilities.
• Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, and product engineering teams to cultivate a shared understanding of system interoperability, aiding teams in making informed design choices that align with a broader, cohesive architecture.
• Convert intricate systems into understandable resources—diagrams, reference architectures, written guidance, and streamlined standards—that enable engineers to swiftly comprehend the landscape and make effective decisions.
• Serve as a connector among teams, facilitating discussions that foster alignment without necessitating formal authority; build consensus around direction, trade-offs, and priorities.
• Assist in identifying high-value areas for Builder Enablement investment, establishing the groundwork for engineers to create streamlined paths such as templates, tools, and reusable components.
• Participate in engineering initiatives at crucial moments (e.g., initial design, significant changes) to offer architectural direction and pose insightful questions, balancing immediate requirements with long-term system sustainability.
• Promote a systems mindset, encouraging engineers and teams to consider how their contributions extend beyond individual services to the larger platform.
• Guide engineers and architects throughout the organization, aiding them in enhancing their architectural thinking, navigating uncertainties, and making informed trade-offs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 10 years of pertinent experience.
• Proven experience in designing and evolving distributed systems and/or enterprise platforms, with an understanding of the interactions among services, infrastructure, and data systems at scale.
• Extensive hands-on experience in building software or platform systems within a production environment.
• Capability to analyze complex technical landscapes and distill them into clear mental models, diagrams, and guidance for others to utilize.
• Experience collaborating across various teams to foster alignment and shared understanding without direct authority.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of translating intricate technical details into high-level architectural concepts suitable for diverse audiences.
• Experience working alongside engineering teams to influence design decisions and enhance system consistency over time.
• Familiarity with modern cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and common architectural patterns in cloud-native and hybrid systems.
