Application Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of small to medium OutSystems low-code solutions and features, guiding them from design to production with minimal supervision.

• Enhance solution quality and team practices, mentor Application Developer 1 colleagues through comprehensive documentation, insightful reviews, and knowledge sharing when appropriate, and engage in the weekly on-call rotation to address a wider range of incidents.

• Influence extends across the solution or feature area.

• Spearhead the implementation of OutSystems Reactive Web applications and workflow automation features or components in Service Studio, decompose work, estimate timelines, and drive projects to completion.

• Perform thorough reviews of applications, automations, and configurations for clarity, maintainability, and accuracy, raising standards for testing and documentation.

• Provide support for production solutions, lead incident triage for the team's domain using execution history, logs, and telemetry, and document findings and solutions in the team wiki and repository READMEs as needed.

• Participate in incident reviews and follow-ups aimed at reducing recurring issues, including enhancements to error handling, alerts, and resilience patterns.

• Implement sound solution architecture principles in daily tasks, provide guidance to Application Developer 1 teammates on foundational concepts, and enhance observability, reliability, security, and privacy benchmarks for managed solutions.

• Collaborate with product and design teams on shaping solutions, highlighting risks and trade-offs such as platform licensing, performance, and governance constraints, and suggesting pragmatic alternatives.

• Contribute to team design documentation, review designs for related solutions or integrations, and advocate for high-quality documentation.

• Identify and implement incremental refactors that lessen toil, boost performance, and enhance reusability across low-code solutions.

• Engage in daily standups and core team ceremonies, sharing status updates and risks promptly.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 1 year of experience is required. Candidates should showcase hands-on OutSystems development skills through previous work, portfolio projects, OutSystems certification, technical assessment, or production support experience.

• Strong communication, mentoring, and collaborative abilities.

• Capability to systematically troubleshoot issues using logs, execution history, data analysis, reproduction steps, and clear root-cause investigation.

• Communicates obstacles promptly, asks insightful questions, and escalates risks with sufficient context for informed decision-making by the team.

• Comfortable participating in the weekly on-call rotation and enhancing support documentation to ensure that teammates at all levels can handle cases effectively.

• Ability to responsibly utilize AI-assisted development tools while validating outputs, safeguarding sensitive data, and maintaining code quality.

• Experience troubleshooting REST/SOAP APIs, authentication issues, integration failures, and dependencies on third-party systems, including integrations developed in Integration Studio.

• Hands-on experience with the OutSystems platform, Service Studio, and Integration Studio, specifically with OutSystems 11 Reactive Web and/or OutSystems Developer Cloud (ODC), including using LifeTime or ODC for application lifecycle management and deployment. Application Developer 2.

• Working knowledge of the web stack that OutSystems is built upon (JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and SQL), creating responsive Reactive Web UIs for desktop and iPad browsers, along with the capability to extend applications using C#/.NET when low-code is insufficient.

• Familiarity with best practices in OutSystems architecture, including the Architecture Canvas / three-layer canvas, reusable modules, and efficient Application Object (AO) consumption.

• Exhibits sound judgment when balancing speed, maintainability, user experience, risk, performance, and platform limitations.

• Solid understanding of data modeling with OutSystems Entities and Aggregates, building and consuming REST/SOAP integrations, JSON, authentication concepts (Roles and Groups), and testing strategies for OutSystems applications and automations.

• A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is advantageous but not mandatory; relevant practical experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
