• Design and animate motion systems for a variety of surfaces, including interaction motion, component behaviors, transitions, and moments of delight.
• Develop expressive 2D animations (and occasionally engage in 3D or hybrid work as necessary) for product storytelling, launches, and in-product education.
• Collaborate daily with Product Designers and Engineers to prototype, refine, and deliver motion that aligns with design intent and performs effectively in production.
• Work in conjunction with broader cross-functional partners (creative direction, brand, illustration, content design, research, marketing/communications) to ensure motion aligns with product objectives and narrative.
• Interpret ambiguous requests into clear motion concepts, swiftly explore alternatives, and iterate based on feedback.
• Assist in developing motion guidelines, documentation, and reusable assets to ensure scalability and consistency across teams.
• Present work with a strong rationale, linking motion decisions to user outcomes such as comprehension, confidence, and reduced friction.
• Over 7 years of professional experience in motion design or animation for digital products, brands, or agencies (or an equivalent portfolio demonstrating comparable scope and craft).
• A robust portfolio showcasing exceptional timing, easing, composition, and narrative clarity, including UI/product motion and/or motion systems work.
• Proficiency in After Effects and essential 2D design tools (e.g., Illustrator, Photoshop); comfortable working with Figma files and design systems.
• Practical experience in shipping animations with Lottie (Bodymovin) and collaborating with engineers to implement and optimize motion in production.
• Background in working alongside engineers to successfully ship motion into production (e.g., delivering specifications, addressing constraints, QA’ing implementation).
• Capability to manage multiple projects while adapting to shifting priorities and stakeholder feedback in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent communication skills and comfort in collaborating with distributed, cross-functional teams.
• Prototyping experience using tools such as Figma prototyping, Origami, Principle, ProtoPie, etc.
• Familiarity with 3D workflows (Cinema 4D, Blender, or similar software).
• Experience in building or contributing to motion design systems (guidelines, libraries, reusable patterns).
