Analytics Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Create and develop well-organized, reusable, and analytics-ready data models within the data warehouse.

• Construct and uphold fact and dimension models featuring clear grain, keys, relationships, business definitions, and historical data management.

• Formulate complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to transform and integrate data from various sources.

• Examine unfamiliar or inadequately documented source systems to comprehend relationships, business rules, and data quality considerations.

• Design effective and maintainable data transformation and loading processes, including incremental load or refresh methods where appropriate.

• Reconcile source data with warehouse outputs, pinpointing and resolving data quality or logic concerns.

• Collaborate with BI colleagues to grasp reporting, semantic model, and Power BI requirements, ensuring warehouse models are suitable for downstream usage.

• Clearly and consistently document data models, transformation logic, assumptions, and known limitations.

• Implement testing, source control, and development standards to guarantee solutions are robust, maintainable, and scalable.

• Manage priorities, dependencies, and delivery risks, effectively communicating progress and raising blockers promptly.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong SQL Server expertise, encompassing advanced SQL development, stored procedures, views, and performance-aware query design.

• Experience in designing and developing data warehouse models for reporting and analytics purposes.

• Solid understanding of dimensional modeling concepts, including facts, dimensions, grain, keys, and relationships.

• Proven experience in transforming, integrating, and reconciling data from various source systems.

• Ability to investigate complex or poorly documented datasets and establish reliable business logic.

• Understanding of data quality, testing, documentation, and maintainable engineering practices.

• Experience collaborating with BI teams, reporting requirements, and downstream analytical or semantic models.

• Capable of taking ownership of tasks, managing priorities, and delivering within agreed timelines.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Desirable: Experience in supporting Power BI reporting, semantic models, or other BI and analytics platforms.

• Desirable: Background in a SaaS, EdTech, payments, or education-focused environment.

• Desirable: Knowledge of source control, deployment processes, and data engineering development standards.

• Desirable: Experience enhancing existing data warehouse logic, minimizing duplication, and increasing model reusability.
