This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa.
• Facilitate VRI interpreting in a professional and precise manner.
• Carry out interpretations that are grammatically and syntactically correct.
• Notify scheduling staff promptly when issues arise.
• Collaborate effectively with both internal and external interpreters.
• Demonstrate professional conduct as a representative of Hands Up Communications.
• Follow ethical standards, procedures, and protocols for interpreting in contexts such as hospitals, courts, and schools.
• Ensure confidentiality for all interpreting assignments and adhere to confidentiality/HIPAA agreements.
• Represent the Hands Up Communications brand during customer interactions.
• Utilize necessary technology for billing, scheduling, reporting, and service evaluation.
• Work flexible hours from Monday to Friday; evening and weekend availability may be necessary.
• No supervisory responsibilities involved.
• Bachelor of Arts degree is preferred; Associate of Arts degree will be accepted or 3+ years of experience may substitute for a formal degree.
• Must possess or be eligible to obtain an Iowa sign language interpreter license.
• RID or BEI certification is preferred, though not mandatory.
• Candidates pursuing certification are encouraged to apply.
• Must achieve an acceptable score on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), as relevant to the role.
• Familiarity with the community, culture, and values of the individuals and language being interpreted.
• Facilitate communication between English and American Sign Language.
• Must have, or be able to obtain, local, regional, or national credentials.
• Maintain compliance with relevant national, state, or local licensure and/or certification requirements.
• Ability to work independently while meeting performance and customer service expectations.
• Ability to apply a code of ethics and standards of practice.
• Capability to interpret for extended durations.
• Punctuality and attendance are mandatory.
• Sedentary work involving sitting and frequent near vision use for reading and computer tasks.
