Aircraft Certification Engineer – Subject Matter Expert

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Act as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for aircraft certification, offering expert advice on adherence to FAA regulations and MIL-HDBK-516C airworthiness standards.

• Create and implement certification basis documents, issue papers, and certification strategies for MCDA programs.

• Collaborate with military airworthiness authorities and DER/DAR representatives to facilitate approval processes.

• Identify and address certification discrepancies that arise from the intersection of civil and military airworthiness standards.

• Assist in compliance substantiation activities for structural, avionics, propulsion, interiors, and systems, which includes reviewing test plans and reports.

• Guide junior engineers and aid in the enhancement of internal certification procedures, tools, and best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a similar technical field.

• Over 15 years of experience in aircraft certification, with hands-on involvement in FAA type certification or supplemental type certificate (STC) programs.

• Previous experience with military commercial derivative aircraft programs is preferred.

• Capability to pass a Tier 1 (minimum) Investigation for work related to Department of Defense contracts.

• An existing security clearance is preferred.

• FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER) authorization in one or more areas is required.

• Must possess a comprehensive understanding of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14CFR - particularly Chapter I, Part 25), as it relates to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulatory procedures and the STC process.

• Requires background in program management, strong communication skills, and a proven ability to coordinate certification initiatives for alterations and modifications.

• Experience in developing certification documents such as ICAs, Ground/Flight Test Plans, Compliance Checklists, Project Specific Certification Plans, etc., is essential.
