
Air Modeling and Radiological Dose Assessment Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Idaho.
• Assist in the preparation of environmental analyses by:
• Conducting radiological air emissions modeling utilizing CAP88-PC (or the latest version of CAP88).
• Carrying out public and environmental dose assessments related to routine radiological releases.
• Assessing source terms, release scenarios, receptor locations, and exposure pathways.
• Aiding in the development of environmental report sections that address radiological impacts on workers, the public, and ecological receptors.
• Creating technical memoranda that document modeling assumptions, methodologies, results, and conclusions.
• Reviewing project data and engineering inputs to formulate robust modeling strategies.
• Assisting in responses to client and regulatory review feedback.
• Offering technical advice regarding applicable regulatory standards and industry best practices.
• Engaging in virtual project meetings and coordinating with environmental, nuclear, and regulatory subject matter experts.
• Bachelor’s degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical field.
• At least 10 years of experience in conducting radiological dose assessments and environmental air modeling.
• Proven expertise in using CAP88-PC.
• Experience in performing atmospheric dispersion and dose consequence analyses for nuclear facilities or radiological operations.
• Strong knowledge of:
• Radiological exposure pathways.
• Environmental transport processes.
• Federal radiological protection standards and dose limits.
• Air emissions permitting and environmental compliance requirements.
• Experience in preparing technical reports that meet regulatory or environmental review standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in supporting DOE, NRC, NNSA, commercial nuclear, or advanced reactor projects.
• Familiarity with NEPA environmental reviews and environmental reports.
• Experience with additional modeling tools such as:
• AERMOD
• AIRDOS/CAP88
• RESRAD
• GoldSim
• Other radiological or environmental modeling platforms.
• Certified Health Physicist (CHP) credential is preferred.
• Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a related field.
