AI/ML Engineer – Freelancer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Develop and continually enhance shared AI capabilities, reusable services, and engineering accelerators for various construction software products.

• Design and implement production-quality AI systems, including experiences based on LLMs, retrieval pipelines, tool usage, orchestration layers, and agent-based workflows.

• Generate technical documentation such as specifications, evaluations, interface definitions, and workflow agreements.

• Establish and implement evaluation-driven development loops that encompass quality, reliability, latency, cost, and grounding.

• Collaborate with product teams to identify opportunities across products and assist in integrating shared capabilities.

• Contribute to AI-native engineering methodologies through Spec-Driven Development, AI-assisted workflows, automated testing, and intelligent engineering agents.

• Implement standards and guidelines for AI reliability, observability, governance, security, and responsible production use.

• Prototype and validate technical solutions, transforming emerging AI capabilities into scalable components.

• Support and mentor engineers through technical collaboration, peer reviews, and knowledge sharing.

• Collaborate with AI PM/PO, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to align implementation decisions with customer value and measurable outcomes.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including substantial work on production-quality AI or data-intensive systems in complex delivery settings.

• Strong programming skills in Python.

• Proficient in Azure/AWS cloud platforms.

• Practical experience with Generative AI technologies and their applications.

• Solid understanding of LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, tool usage, agents, and their real-world trade-offs, limitations, and failure modes.

• Experience in designing and operating comprehensive AI systems across APIs, application services, data pipelines, retrieval layers, evaluation workflows, and cloud infrastructure.

• Capability to define measurable quality criteria and evaluation methods for AI systems.

• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering, Spec-Driven Development, and contemporary developer tools.

• Strong architectural judgment and the ability to design reusable patterns and shared capabilities.

• Proven track record in contributing to cross-functional efforts from exploration and prototyping to production rollout and ongoing improvement in agile environments.

• Ability to support and influence fellow engineers and elevate technical standards through collaboration.

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

• Adaptive mindset, high learning agility, and willingness to embrace continuous change.

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical domain; equivalent experience will be considered for exceptional candidates.
