This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Malta.
• Lead the design, implementation, and integration of AI-driven solutions throughout the organization, including RPA, process automation, LLM-based tools, and integrations.
• Manage, recruit, guide, and support a team of AI and Software Engineers.
• Develop and oversee the technical strategy and roadmap for AI adoption, automation, and tooling in collaboration with business stakeholders.
• Convert business objectives into a well-resourced and prioritized delivery plan.
• Communicate progress, risks, and capacity to leadership.
• Make architectural and design decisions for AI-driven systems, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and maintainable.
• Assess AI tools, models, and vendors, including LLM providers and RPA platforms.
• Manage build-vs-buy decisions and evaluate cost/risk trade-offs for AI utilization across engineering.
• Establish and promote engineering best practices for code quality, testing, review standards, and responsible use of AI tools.
• Serve as an escalation point for technical challenges, inter-team dependencies, and delivery risks.
• Collaborate with other Team Leads to share standards, minimize duplicated efforts, and align on methodologies.
• Remain updated on emerging developments in AI/LLM and evaluate valuable adoption opportunities against hype.
• Undertake additional tasks or responsibilities associated with the AI Team Lead position.
• Demonstrated experience in leading or managing engineering teams, including recruitment, coaching, and performance management.
• 5+ years of experience in AI, machine learning, or automation, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership or team lead role.
• Experience in directing or overseeing AI/LLM-based projects or automation programs.
• Ability to work comfortably with senior stakeholders and leadership, translating technical and AI concepts into actionable terms for non-technical audiences.
• Experience in assessing vendors, tools, or making build-vs-buy decisions based on cost, capability, and risk.
• Familiarity with contemporary software engineering practices, including version control, code review, testing, and CI/CD.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Exceptional time management and prioritization abilities, capable of balancing multiple team priorities simultaneously.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
