AI Software Engineer – Staff/Principal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define the architecture, patterns, and technical strategies for scalable backend systems that support AI and agentic applications.

• Take ownership of complex and ambiguous projects from inception to production, coordinating efforts among engineers, teams, and stakeholders.

• Design and develop agentic systems that facilitate agent routing, orchestration, tool utilization, evaluations, runtime infrastructure, sandboxing, and communication between agents.

• Establish backend services, runtime environments, interfaces, and architectural frameworks for AI-enabled applications.

• Create dependable backend services and APIs that support AI workloads across extensive data volumes and intricate workflows.

• Develop shared AI platform services, APIs, libraries, orchestration patterns, runtime infrastructure, and features aimed at developers.

• Implement methods for assessing agentic output, monitoring system performance, and enhancing reliability, safety, and observability.

• Construct integrations between AI agents, internal services, and third-party enterprise platforms.

• Analyze emerging AI technologies and translate them into sustainable production systems.

• Collaborate directly with customers during early deployment phases and integrate real-world insights into the product.

• Provide technical guidance in backend architecture, platform engineering, agentic systems, AI engineering, and operational excellence.

• Identify risks, challenge assumptions, and suggest improved technical methodologies.

• Work alongside product managers and owners to shape and refine a vision for generative AI in analytics engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including a background operating at a Staff level or equivalent scope.

• A significant portion of recent experience dedicated to generative AI or agentic systems.

• A proven history of leading complex AI, agentic, or platform initiatives from concept to production.

• Extensive hands-on experience in building and managing agentic systems, including agents, routing/orchestration, tool utilization, evaluations, runtimes, sandboxing, or similar infrastructure.

• In-depth expertise in Python and backend engineering, encompassing large-scale distributed systems, services, APIs, and data-intensive workflows.

• Experience in designing or overseeing shared platform services or infrastructure utilized by multiple engineering teams.

• Familiarity with modern AI/LLM frameworks, SDKs, or orchestration tools used to create production-level AI and agentic applications.

• Experience in developing evaluation strategies and observability for AI or agentic systems.

• Knowledge of SQL and relational databases like PostgreSQL.

• Experience in deploying and maintaining production systems in Kubernetes or another containerized environment.

• Experience in building and operating software in a SaaS setting.

• A strong understanding of production AI concerns, including reliability, monitoring, performance, cost, and failure mitigation.

• Ability to assess emerging AI methodologies and convert them into practical, maintainable software solutions.

• Demonstrated capability to take charge of ambiguous technical challenges and independently advance them.

• Proven technical leadership of engineers and teams while maintaining a strong focus on individual hands-on contributions.

• Excellent communication skills with experience in mentoring and coaching engineers.

• Preferred: Experience in architecting multi-agent or complex agentic platforms utilized across various teams or products.

• Preferred: Experience in defining shared AI or backend platform capabilities employed broadly within an engineering organization.

• Preferred: Experience with retrieval architectures such as vector search, hybrid retrieval, re-ranking, or RAG.

• Preferred: Experience in integrating AI agents with third-party enterprise platforms.

• Preferred: Experience working with industrial, operational, or time-series data.

• Preferred: Experience in developing software products aimed at technical or engineering-focused clients.

• Preferred: A background in mechanical, chemical, process, or another engineering discipline prior to transitioning into software.
