This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Develop and take complete ownership of a growing portfolio of Focused Research Organizations (FROs) and other scientific initiatives aimed at enhancing AI resilience.
• Map out the AI resilience ecosystem to pinpoint bottlenecks and essential capabilities.
• Identify and assess ideas for new projects and organizations.
• Collaborate with funders to design funding calls.
• Assemble founding teams and assist in the recruitment of initial hires.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to founders on technical and organizational strategies, fundraising, and startup operations.
• Act as a Director on several FRO boards, overseeing milestones, funding, strategic direction, hiring, firing, and operational activities.
• Represent Convergent Research and cultivate relationships with philanthropic and public funding bodies.
• Participate in Convergent-wide initiatives such as Founder Retreats and Residencies.
• Formulate an AI resilience portfolio thesis, aid founders in developing fundable plans, map the ecosystem, assess potential FROs, and establish connections with funders and advisors.
• Possess a detailed understanding of the AI landscape in 2026.
• Have insights into areas where the world faces AI-related risks and which of these risks are manageable.
• Generate ideas or have a credible strategy for large-scale initiatives that enhance resilience during the AI transition.
• Demonstrate the ability to advocate passionately for a thesis regarding the allocation of philanthropic capital while also articulating opposing viewpoints effectively.
• Exhibit technical fluency in cutting-edge AI technologies.
• Maintain a robust network within the field.
• Have a solid grasp of startup operations, preferably through direct experience in a startup, venture firm, or through independent ventures.
• Demonstrate experience in fundraising, budget management, crafting technical roadmaps, and hiring personnel.
• Show proficiency in assembling teams to tackle challenging technical projects.
• Bring experience in board governance or nonprofit leadership.
• Possess strong communication skills and the ability to act swiftly.
