AI-Focused Controller – Government Contracting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee and manage daily accounting functions, which include general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, cash management, reconciliations, month-end closing activities, and reporting.

• Develop and uphold financial controls, accounting policies, procedures, and documentation standards.

• Facilitate the collection of information and documentation necessary for annual financial audits, incurred cost submissions, benefits audits, tax filings, government contracting obligations, and other compliance measures.

• Ensure adherence to GAAP, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR/DFARS).

• Maintain and enhance DCAA-compliant accounting systems.

• Spearhead the assessment, selection, and implementation of AI and machine learning technologies for financial operations, including predictive forecasting, anomaly detection, and workflow automation.

• Collaborate with the IT department to integrate AI tools with ERP and accounting systems like Unanet and Paylocity.

• Identify and automate routine accounting processes to minimize manual labor and boost accuracy.

• Establish controls, approval workflows, documentation, access restrictions, and segregation of duties for automated and AI-assisted financial operations.

• Monitor the accuracy, reliability, security, compliance, and effectiveness of AI-assisted processes.

• Assist in annual budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning activities.

• Prepare or evaluate indirect rate structures and ensure the timely submission of incurred cost submissions (ICS).

• Engage with external auditors, government agencies, and internal stakeholders during financial reviews and audits.

• Lead and mentor a small team of finance professionals and analysts.

• Foster innovation and continuous improvement through the adoption of emerging technologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.

• CPA or MBA is highly preferred.

• A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and financial management within a government contracting context.

• Familiarity with 8(a) multiple entities, Small Business regulations, and overseas (OCONUS) work.

• Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP, FAR, DFARS, and CAS requirements.

• Experience with DCAA audits and compliance reporting.

• Practical experience with Unanet (strongly preferred) or other accounting/ERP systems utilized in federal contracting.

• Capability to serve as the Unanet administrator.

• Experience in M&A due diligence and accounting integration.

• Demonstrated experience in identifying and implementing AI or automation tools in a financial environment.
