This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Convert ambiguous customer inquiries into well-defined data science projects involving panel data, time series, and causal inference.
• Create features from extensive alternative data panels (transaction-level, invoice-level, web-scraped) utilizing Spark.
• Develop, validate, and interpret causal and predictive models that connect alternative data signals to financial results such as revenue, earnings surprises, and KPI changes.
• Write technical white papers and customer analyses aimed at institutional investors and Fortune 500 audiences, incorporating figures, equations, and narrative context for sophisticated readers.
• Utilize LLM coding assistants and agents as primary collaborators to prototype more quickly, produce higher-quality code, audit your work, and deliver results within tighter timelines.
• Create internal LLM-driven tools (agents, evaluation harnesses, retrieval pipelines) for the broader organization.
• Collaborate with data engineering, product, and revenue teams to ensure a seamless connection between signal development and customer-facing products.
• Establish technical standards for the team, including PEP 8, type hints, vectorized operations, reproducible notebooks, sound methodologies, and citation discipline.
• You have successfully delivered multiple end-to-end data science projects and can demonstrate quantifiable impacts on customers or the business.
• Your understanding of statistical principles is deep and substantive. You can robustly defend your choice of causal inference methods under technical scrutiny.
• You write Python code that reflects the quality of a senior engineer: clear naming conventions, type hints, vectorization, and avoidance of premature abstraction.
• You regularly use LLM coding assistants and can provide specific examples where they enhanced your productivity without sacrificing quality, as well as instances where you chose to override their suggestions.
• Writing is a core competency for you, not a secondary interest. You communicate with the same care in writing as you do in coding.
• You take initiative and ownership: you identify the right questions, deliver responses, and provide explanations.
• You value humility regarding your knowledge gaps as much as confidence in your expertise.
• You engage with academic literature, cite sources, and base your work on established methods rather than reinventing them.
• We genuinely care about your personal life. We provide flexible work hours, vacation options, a generous 401K match, parental leave, team events, a wellness budget, learning reimbursements, and more!
• Your growth at YipitData is based on the impact you make, rather than tenure, unnecessary facetime, or office politics. Everyone at YipitData is empowered to learn, self-develop, and refine their skills in an environment that prioritizes ownership, respect, and trust.
