This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, develop, train, test, deploy, and sustain AI and machine learning models for enterprise-scale and Government applications.
• Create and operationalize dependable, scalable, and maintainable production AI/ML solutions that meet VA mission requirements.
• Gather, cleanse, transform, analyze, and prepare both structured and unstructured data for AI/ML development and assessment.
• Assess AI technologies, models, tools, frameworks, and architectures, providing recommendations for Federal Government and cybersecurity applications.
• Develop and support Generative AI and LLM solutions, encompassing configuration, prompts, classifiers, fine-tuning, content moderation, safety filters, and model controls.
• Analyze AI-generated outputs for accuracy, factuality, grounding, reliability, bias, helpfulness, honesty, and performance.
• Design and implement AI/ML evaluation, validation, benchmark testing, and comparative output assessments.
• Conduct AI red-team testing to uncover unintended behaviors, biases, vulnerabilities, and risks.
• Establish controls to enhance output factuality and grounding, including source attribution and content controls.
• Continuously monitor AI models and investigate issues related to performance, compliance, security, and behavior.
• Oversee AI/LLM model modifications throughout the system lifecycle.
• Maintain technical documentation such as Model Cards, System Cards, Data Cards, evaluation results, configurations, controls, and system documentation.
• Support AI acceptable-use policies, end-user guidance, feedback mechanisms, monitoring plans, and governance documentation.
• Safeguard VA-sensitive information, PII, PHI, and other confidential Government data.
• Ensure adherence to VA cybersecurity, Federal AI, security, privacy, and responsible AI standards.
• Implement secure-by-design, Zero Trust, least-privilege, defense-in-depth, and risk-management principles.
• Assist in security and architectural reviews, identifying risks, vulnerabilities, control gaps, attack paths, misuse cases, and mitigations.
• Collaborate with data scientists, cybersecurity architects and engineers, software developers, DevSecOps engineers, SMEs, program leadership, and Government stakeholders.
• Translate mission, cybersecurity, business, and technical requirements into AI/ML architectures and engineering solutions.
• Engage in design reviews, pilots, proofs of concept, use-case development, modernization initiatives, and engineering working groups.
• Generate technical documentation, analysis, recommendations, briefings, and stakeholder materials.
• Deliver Government-owned AI technical artifacts, including models, model weights, algorithms, configurations, documentation, data models, source code, and supporting components.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.
• May require up to two onsite travel visits per year.
• At least 10 years of experience in relevant fields such as IT security, data science, or software engineering, with a minimum of 5 years focused on the design, development, or deployment of AI or machine learning systems in enterprise or Government contexts.
• A PhD in a related discipline may replace up to 5 years of the required experience.
• Proficiency in working on data science, machine learning, or AI projects through internships, research projects, or professional roles.
• Demonstrated expertise in building, training, and deploying machine learning models and AI systems in a production setting.
• Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software developers, and domain experts.
• Proficiency in data collection, cleansing, and analysis techniques to prepare datasets for AI modeling.
• Experience applying AI solutions to real-world challenges in enterprises and sectors such as large corporations and Government agencies comparable in size/scope to GSA, IRS, DoD, or VA.
