This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Contribute to the technical strategy for assessing how AI agents analyze intricate microbiome and metagenomics datasets.
• Collaborate with software engineers and computational biologists.
• Develop ground-truth benchmark datasets sourced from actual published microbiome studies.
• Thoroughly evaluate whether AI agents execute essential analytical and interpretative processes utilized by expert microbiome researchers.
• Recognize confounders, technical artifacts, and limitations inherent in the underlying experiments.
• Assist in defining the metrics for measuring agent capability in computational microbiology.
• Engage in the interview process, which includes a take-home HackerRank project as well as technical and cultural interviews.
• Master's or PhD in microbiology, microbial ecology, bioinformatics, biology, or a related discipline.
• Over 3 years of practical research experience with microbiome or metagenomics data, evidenced by publications or industry involvement.
• Extensive knowledge in at least one of the following areas: human microbiome and disease; longitudinal microbiome or interventions; microbial function and metabolism; plant, soil, or environmental microbial ecology.
• Experience in interpreting microbiome data within a biological context.
• Capability to identify confounders, technical artifacts, and the limitations of the underlying experiments.
• Proficient in Python and/or R for biological data analysis and visualization.
• Familiar with 16S and/or shotgun metagenomics, encompassing taxonomic, functional, and community-level analysis.
• Practical experience in designing or troubleshooting microbiome experiments, including sampling, extraction, controls, or library preparation.
• Background in integrating metagenomics with metabolomics, metatranscriptomics, host omics, or clinical phenotypes.
• Experience with strain-level analysis, metagenomic assembly, MAGs, or long-read sequencing.
• Work authorization is limited to OPT visa holders; STEM Extension holders are not accepted.
