This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +17 more states.
• Co-lead initiatives focused on optimizing and enhancing efficiency, identifying manual processes, creating roadmaps, and driving improvements that decrease manual effort while bolstering scalability within the accounting organization.
• Manage communications, facilitation, and tracking related to the close process, ensuring the operational rhythm of the close cycle is maintained.
• Revamp and oversee the artifacts, templates, and frameworks utilized to coordinate close activities across the accounting organization.
• Spearhead recurring cross-team accounting programs, including close management and consolidation, promoting standardization and coordination among teams.
• Oversee the intercompany program; collaborate with Tax, Legal, Treasury, and Compliance to ensure that shared services and transfer pricing agreements are functioning correctly and highlight any issues that require attention.
• Represent accounting in Zillow Group-wide strategic initiatives such as M&A integrations, new entity formation, and reorganizations, managing the execution of related activities throughout the accounting organization.
• Create and refine operational policies and internal control frameworks to guarantee SOX compliance.
• Provide financial analysis and develop metrics that offer insights into close processes, aiding efforts to drive optimization, standardization, and scalability.
• Oversee the accounting for specific close areas, including expense accruals, ensuring that the associated journal entries and reconciliations are accurate and well-supported.
• Serve as a reviewer for intercompany activities across a defined subset of entities governed by shared service and transfer pricing agreements, ensuring that settlements are recorded accurately and in alignment with those agreements.
• Write or review monthly fluctuation analyses and month-end close documentation for the areas under your purview.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a large public company setting.
• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA designation is preferred.
• A strong foundation in US GAAP, with experience in intercompany accounting, multi-entity consolidation, and familiarity with international subsidiaries and transfer-pricing processes preferred.
• Proficient in preparing and reviewing journal entries and reconciliations with a critical, analytical mindset.
• Proven ability to lead or support cross-functional projects and programs, effectively balancing execution with strategic priorities.
• A focus on process improvement and automation, not only executing tasks but also questioning and enhancing existing practices, with a history of delivering scalable solutions.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills, comfortable presenting to leadership and fostering cross-functional alignment among Finance, Tax, FP&A, Legal, and Technology teams without direct authority.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; capable of managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and establishing structure where it is lacking.
• Advanced Excel skills are essential; familiarity with Workday Financials or other large ERP systems and similar data tools is preferred.
