This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Supervise daily accounting functions and ensure the maintenance of comprehensive, precise, and timely financial records.
• Keep financial records consistent with GAAP and AACOM guidelines.
• Oversee monthly and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
• Generate monthly financial statements and distribute reports to relevant departments.
• Prepare and examine bank and investment account reconciliations; track daily cash flow and balances.
• Maintain internal controls and suggest enhancements to accounting processes.
• Assist with the annual financial statement audit, Form 990 preparation, and respond to audit or tax inquiries.
• Develop quarterly lobbying reports and manage other federal, state, or local submissions.
• Aid in the preparation, allocation, monitoring, and analysis of the annual budget.
• Oversee biweekly payroll, verify time cards and payroll adjustments, and reconcile payroll and benefit accounts.
• Coordinate employee enrollment and changes in benefit programs.
• Investigate payroll requirements and facilitate payroll registration and setup in new states.
• Manage accounts payable, which includes processing invoices, approvals, coding, and payments.
• Administer expense reimbursement and corporate card programs; evaluate reports and reconcile transactions.
• Oversee accounts receivable tasks, including invoicing, cash application, aging review, and follow-up on collections.
• Maintain vendor and customer records and assist with year-end reporting, including Forms 1099.
• Supervise, train, and assess the performance of assigned accounting personnel.
• Act as a resource for departments on accounting practices, coding, and financial reporting.
• Carry out additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• Minimum of five years of accounting experience.
• In-depth understanding of GAAP.
• Capacity to lead and support team members, manage workloads, and ensure timely and accurate completion of accounting tasks.
• Strong judgment and accountability, including the ability to resolve issues and escalate significant matters appropriately.
• Capability to analyze financial data and enhance processes.
• Ability to facilitate organizational, system, and procedural changes.
• Proficient in communicating financial information, priorities, and expectations clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
• Ability to cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, and service-oriented team environment.
• High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

• Preferred: experience in nonprofit accounting, grant management, or fund accounting.
• Preferred: experience with ADP, Sage Intacct, BILL, and Nexonia.
• Preferred: CPA certification or active progress toward certification.
• Occasional domestic travel may be required.
