Accounting & Controls Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for the monthly financial close, including managing the close calendar, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, flux analysis, and verified financial statements.

• Analyze and clarify significant financial discrepancies.

• Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, bill processing, billing, cash application, expense management, and perform hands-on bookkeeping.

• Manage inventory accounting for physical metals, focusing on cost per pound, ensuring integrity of the inventory general ledger, and conducting reconciliations between operating platforms and ledgers.

• Reconcile bank statements, track daily cash activities, prepare weekly borrowing base certificates, and assist with banking transactions.

• Handle payroll accounting and associated accruals, reconcile payroll liabilities and benefits accounts, and manage tax filings, payments, and compliance with exemptions.

• Design, implement, and uphold accounting policies, approval thresholds, segregation of duties, and prepare audit-ready workpapers.

• Act as the main point of contact for external auditors and banking institutions.

• Utilize QuickBooks Online, Ramp, bill-pay systems, and other related integrations.

• Lead evaluation and migration of ERP systems as necessary.

• Supervise and enhance AI automation in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial closing processes.


⛳️ Requirements

• 5 to 10 years of progressive experience in accounting.

• Complete ownership of the monthly close process, including managing calendars, entries, reconciliations, and meeting deadlines.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is mandatory.

• CPA certification is highly preferred.

• Proficient understanding of accruals, cutoffs, revenue recognition, inventory/COGS accounting, and internal controls.

• Controller-level decision-making skills combined with a willingness to engage in hands-on bookkeeping.

• Extensive experience with QuickBooks Online or similar ERP systems.

• Familiarity with integrated fintech solutions such as Ramp and bill-pay applications.

• Detail-oriented and disciplined approach to tie-outs and deadlines.

• Ability to establish processes and standard operating procedures in a dynamic startup setting.
