This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Support multi-state insurance tax compliance efforts, including the preparation and filing of state tax returns, while collaborating with finance, accounting, and operations teams to meet stringent regulatory deadlines.
• Aid in evaluating the tax and financial statement implications of both actual and proposed activities and events.
• Examine the tax and financial statement repercussions of existing and proposed business activities, offering recommendations to optimize tax results.
• Prepare journal entries and carry out account reconciliations.
• Initiate and manage state and local tax payments.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders concerning tax-related matters.
• Innovatively and consistently leverage information services and channels to provide insights and respond to inquiries related to tax, software, and other topics.
• Conduct tax research utilizing available information services and technology.
• Engage in process improvement initiatives and assist in recognizing opportunities to enhance efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve documentation.
• Execute additional duties and special projects as assigned.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• 1-2 years of pertinent experience in a corporate tax function or in the tax practice of a public accounting firm.
• Knowledge of State and Local Taxes, including Premium Taxes.
• Experience with taxation for insurance companies.
• Familiarity with cloud-based ERP systems, preferably Workday.
• Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Proven ability to manage deadlines and work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Experience in analyzing and reviewing tax laws and/or accounting guidance, along with making recommendations.
• Familiarity with and/or a strong desire for process improvement and a history of effective documentation.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Experience in technical writing.
• Capable of identifying, analyzing, and logically framing issues.
