This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of a designated segment of the monthly closing process, which includes journal entries, accruals, recurring entries, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Investigate, age, resolve, and escalate reconciling items as necessary.
• Develop and maintain reconciliation templates and closing schedules.
• Conduct self-reviews of your work and adhere to assigned closing deadlines.
• Manage technical accounting documentation that supports revenue recognition, including ASC 606 assessments, five-step analyses, and position memos.
• Evaluate contracts, change orders, and modifications for potential revenue recognition impacts.
• Analyze monthly WIP schedules and probe revenue variances.
• Organize contract files and maintain revenue recognition policy documentation.
• Act as the primary liaison for external auditors regarding assigned revenue recognition documentation and testing.
• Provide assistance with WIP schedule preparation and revenue recognition entries.
• Document accounting processes, reconciliation procedures, and closing steps thoroughly.
• Identify process gaps and recommend improvements that enhance controls and scalability.
• Aid in the implementation and maintenance of accounting systems and processes.
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions.
• Engage in cross-training across various accounting functions and offer backup support.
• Keep desk procedures updated for the functions you own.
• Liaise with departments, customers, vendors, and external resources to address accounting inquiries.
• Assist with billing and collections activities as required.
• Adhere to RSI security policies, safeguard sensitive data, report incidents, and complete annual security training.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• CPA designation or active CPA candidate preferred.
• 3–5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Over 2 years of audit experience with a Big 4, national, or large regional public accounting firm is highly preferred.
• Proven expertise in strong closing and reconciliation processes.
• Experience managing balance sheet reconciliations from start to finish, including investigating and clearing aged items.
• Familiarity with ASC 606 and the capacity to document revenue conclusions in defensible memos.
• Experience with percentage-of-completion, WIP, or project/contract accounting is preferred.
• Excellent documentation skills for workpapers, process narratives, and technical memos.
• Solid understanding of accrual accounting and the relationships among financial statements.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and handling large datasets.
• Readiness to learn new accounting systems.
• Flexibility to work across various accounting functions and provide coverage for team members.
• Ability to clearly explain technical accounting concepts to non-accounting personnel.
• Capability to work independently and determine which issues to resolve or escalate.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing closing deadlines.
• Experience in a private equity-backed or project-based environment is a plus.
• Commitment to following security policies and protecting FTI, PII, and client data.
• Willingness to complete the required annual security awareness training.
