This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Guide, motivate, and provide information to students regarding their academic pathways for advancing through their programs.
• Assist students in identifying and achieving their educational objectives through various remote communication channels, including email, phone, and chat.
• Cultivate relationships with prospective, current, and returning students while serving as a representative of the university.
• Generate and respond to inquiries concerning academic advising, programs, policies, campus navigation, and student issues.
• Conduct outreach to students and offer guidance on subsequent steps.
• Clearly document all interactions with students.
• Evaluate requests for degree plan changes and provide counsel on credit implications, completion timelines, planning, and recommended pathways.
• Utilize inquisitive, appreciative, developmental, and prescriptive advising techniques.
• Observe student behavior patterns and support targeted outreach initiatives and procedural adjustments.
• Maintain expertise in advising distinct student populations or academic programs.
• Encourage and assist students in successfully completing their programs.
• Meet service-level agreements and departmental service expectations.
• Assess processes and policies, making recommendations for enhancements.
• Engage in professional development, departmental committees, task forces, university organizations, and industry groups such as NACADA.
• Act as a liaison with other university departments on behalf of students.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• A conferred Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
• Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred.
• Effective interpersonal abilities, including influencing, persuasion, elicitation, and active listening skills.
• Familiarity with student development theory is important.
• Exceptional student and customer service capabilities are necessary.
• Ability to provide effective advice in ambiguous and unstructured situations.
• Capacity to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines with minimal oversight.
• Logical and objective decision-making abilities.
• Proficiency in navigating various systems and adapting swiftly to ongoing technological changes.
• A positive and optimistic attitude.
• Creativity and critical thinking skills are required.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Flexibility to adapt quickly to changes.
• One year of professional office experience is required, preferably within a collegiate or academic advising environment.
• Knowledge of undergraduate and graduate student development theory.
• Understanding of academic advising theory and best practices.
• Experience in influencing, informing, and persuading students on complex academic issues is advantageous.
• Experience working with students from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds is preferred.
• Availability to work from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays.
