2D Technical Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Establish and guide the pipeline, tools, and best practices for 2D production.

• Take ownership of 2D tools, workflow enhancements, pipeline integration, and standards.

• Address the backlog of requests for scene setup automation, animatic import tools, and version management integration.

• Design, develop, and sustain pipeline tools primarily focused on Toon Boom Harmony.

• Integrate 2D workflows with Autodesk Flow (formerly known as ShotGrid) and the overall studio pipeline.

• Automate repetitive tasks related to setup, import, and versioning.

• Collaborate with 2D artists, leads, and production planners to convert challenges into effective tooling solutions.

• Provide support and troubleshoot technical issues specific to 2D production.

• Document tools and establish conventions for workflows.

• Work in partnership with 3D TDs and the broader tech team on shared pipeline standards.

• Shape and develop the 2D technical team as the division expands.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong skills in QT script (Javascript) and Python development within an animation pipeline context.

• Practical experience in creating tools for Toon Boom Harmony or similar 2D animation software.

• Proven capability to collaborate with artists and production personnel to translate their needs into functional tools.

• Experience in making technical decisions as the sole TD in a specific area.

• Familiarity with structured production planning processes.

• Experience with production tracking integration, preferably with ShotGrid.

• Senior pipeline developer experience with genuine expertise in 2D.

• Experience as a TD or pipeline developer in a 2D animation studio (preferred).

• Knowledge of Storyboard Pro and animatic workflows (preferred).

• Experience mentoring or leading junior developers (preferred).

• Exposure to larger studio pipelines, including 3D, compositing, and editorial (preferred).

• Authorization to work in the United States or Canada for the duration of the role, if located in the US or Canada.
