2D Game Artist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Assist in establishing and articulating Chess.com’s creative vision and visual aesthetic

• Facilitate the evolution of Chess.com’s artistic style towards more engaging, enjoyable, and challenging designs

• Contribute to initiatives related to product and branding

• Develop illustrative assets that realize the creative vision

• Collaborate with teams across product development, animation, motion design, and engineering

• Create environments, objects, storyboards, characters, clothing, and various other 2D art assets

⛳️ Requirements

• Expert-level proficiency in designing vector artwork using tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Figma

• Outstanding skills in 2D art and illustration

• Strong attention to composition, perspective, color theory, and guiding the viewer’s gaze

• Proficient in creating environments, objects, storyboards, characters, and clothing

• Exceptional imagination and creativity within a vibrant creative environment and interactive products

• Ability to align with established art styles and adapt to diverse illustration and vector-art styles

• Over 3 years of experience within a gaming context

• Quick to acquire new technical skills and concepts

• Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic setting

• Capable of collaborating within small team pods as well as larger product teams

• Competent in managing pipeline deliverables independently with some assistance

• Adaptable and flexible in a rapidly changing environment

• Portfolio showcasing relevant work for the position

• Enthusiasm for games and a passion for promoting chess

• Understanding of animation pipelines for creating 2D game-animation assets

• Experience with motion design tools such as Lottie, Rive, or CSS
