z/OS Mainframe Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Conduct research, design, implement, and manage software applications while also testing and assessing new programs.

• Address software issues and respond to feedback for improvements and enhancements.

• Develop and implement efficient coding solutions.

• Create quality assurance protocols and deploy software tools, processes, and metrics.

• Contribute to the development of software user manuals.

• Instruct, assign, direct, and review the work of other developers within the software development team.

• Collaborate with engineering personnel to assess software-hardware interfaces and establish specifications and performance criteria.

⛳️ Requirements

• A degree from an accredited College or University in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is mandatory.

• Over 8 years of hands-on experience with COBOL programming on IBM z/OS.

• Proficient in JCL, VSAM, DB2, IMS, CICS, and RACF.

• Strong understanding of both batch processing and online transaction processing.

• Must possess experience with IBM utilities, TSO/ISPF, and Abend-AID.

• Experience in mainframe migration projects or modernization efforts is preferred.

• Familiar with Control-D, Control-M, and File-AID.

• Knowledge of AI/ML tools (such as CoPilot, WatsonX, ReDux, among others) for code analysis, pattern recognition, or modernization assistance.

• Understanding of AI-driven code refactoring platforms/products and the capability to utilize AI to enhance testing, documentation, and process optimization.

• Familiarity with DevOps practices on mainframes, including tools like Jenkins and Git.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to bridge business and technical concepts.

• All applicants must be US Citizens or possess permanent residency status (Green Card).

• Must be eligible to obtain Public Trust Clearance.

• Candidates must have resided in the United States for the past 5 years.

• Must not have spent more than 6 months outside the United States in the last 5 years, excluding Military Service.
