This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.
• Engage in a three-week Virtual Youth Conservation Program in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service.
• Participate in virtual lessons and curriculum sessions.
• Investigate Green STEM career pathways.
• Take part in scheduled project planning sessions.
• Delve into subjects such as climate resilience, fire-dependent ecology and management, wildfire mapping, public lands history, Leave No Trace principles, career and professional development, environmental organizing and advocacy, time management and self-care, and leadership training.
• Get involved in service learning activities and self-directed hands-on projects.
• Candidates must be at least 15 years old by June 1 of the program year and may not exceed 18 years old before August 31 of the program year.
• Must be enrolled in high school or a graduate of the class of 2024.
• Should be able to fully dedicate themselves to the program dates and meeting schedules.
• Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the assigned tasks with or without reasonable accommodations.
• A valid U.S. Social Security number is required or an application for a valid Social Security number must be submitted prior to the program start.
• Must be able to acquire a work permit if necessary.
• Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
• Receive a weekly stipend of $250 for participation.
• Gain access to technical support and equipment assistance.
• Enhance collaboration and leadership abilities.
• Connect with fellow high school students from across the nation.
• Discover and learn how to safeguard natural resources.
• Explore career opportunities in cultural and natural resource management.
• Potential to earn service learning hours.
