This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Engage in a three-week Virtual Youth Conservation Program in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service.
• Attend online lessons and curriculum sessions.
• Discover Green STEM career pathways.
• Take part in designated project planning sessions.
• Gain insights into climate resilience, fire-dependent ecology and management, wildfire mapping, public lands, Leave No Trace principles, environmental advocacy and organizing, time management and self-care, as well as leadership skills.
• Participate in service learning and self-directed hands-on projects.
• Attend full-time program activities from Monday to Friday, with hours varying based on time zone.
• Applicants must be at least 15 years old by June 1 of the program year and not exceed 18 years old before August 31 of the program year.
• Must be currently enrolled in high school or be a 2024 graduate.
• Must be able to fully commit to the program's dates and meeting schedules.
• Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the assigned work with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Must have a valid U.S. Social Security number or have applied for one by the start of the program.
• Must be able to obtain a work permit if necessary.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
• Weekly stipend of $250 for participation.
• Access to technical support and equipment assistance.
• Opportunity to develop collaboration and leadership skills.
• Work alongside fellow high school students from various regions across the country.
• Explore and learn methods for protecting natural resources.
• Gain knowledge about careers in cultural and natural resource management.
• Potential to earn service learning hours.
