Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Act on behalf of employers and insurers across all facets of workers' compensation defense before the Workers Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB), encompassing hearings, conferences, and trials.

• Oversee a complete caseload and steer claims towards effective and favorable resolutions.

• Conduct and defend depositions, including medical depositions when relevant.

• Prepare and argue motions, as well as draft legal documents in line with California workers' compensation legislation.

• Strategically negotiate settlements and resolve claims.

• Perform legal research pertaining to workers' compensation laws and case precedents.

• Keep in regular contact with adjusters and clients regarding case strategies and updates.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2–10 years of experience in California workers' compensation defense, with a minimum of 1.5 years specifically representing employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators.

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law institution.

• Active membership in the California State Bar.

• Proficient in managing depositions.

• Comfortable operating in a paperless practice setting using dictation software.

• Experience working collaboratively with legal assistants and team members.

• Familiarity with handling doctor depositions is a significant advantage.

• Trial experience as either first or second chair is beneficial.

• High billable hours in legal practice is a plus.

• Experience in client-facing legal roles is advantageous.
