WAF/CDN Security Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +45 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee the onboarding and migration of applications to the Akamai CDN and WAF platforms.

• Set up, maintain, and provide support for Akamai's edge security and content delivery services.

• Implement and optimize WAF policies, security measures, caching settings, and traffic management configurations.

• Collaborate closely with application, network, cloud, and security teams to ensure secure and efficient application delivery.

• Diagnose complex Layer 1–7 issues related to DNS, TLS/SSL, HTTP/HTTPS, CDN performance, caching, and origin connectivity.

• Assist with production incidents, conduct root cause analyses, and manage operational escalations.

• Engage in an on-call rotation and support maintenance tasks during off-hours change windows.

• Create technical documentation, runbooks, operational procedures, and audit artifacts.

• Work with vendors and internal stakeholders on application onboarding and security initiatives.

• Assist with security assessments, audits, remediation tasks, and compliance obligations.

• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of comprehensive IT infrastructure/network/security experience.

• More than 5 years of practical experience with Akamai CDN and WAF technologies in enterprise settings.

• In-depth expertise in:

• Akamai Kona Site Defender (KSD)

• Akamai CDN

• Edge DNS

• Property Manager

• Bot Manager

• TLS/Certificate Management

• Solid understanding of:

• HTTP/HTTPS

• TLS/SSL

• DNS

• TCP/IP

• CDN caching

• Load balancing

• Web application security

• Experience with OWASP Top 10 mitigation strategies and WAF tuning.

• Familiarity with supporting cloud-native applications in AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Knowledge of enterprise ADC/load balancer technologies such as F5, AVI, Citrix ADC, A10, or Cloudflare.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

• Proven experience working directly with vendors and leading technical discussions independently.

• Akamai certifications are a plus.

• Experience in automation/scripting using Python, Shell, Terraform, or APIs.

• Background in SIEM integrations, DevSecOps, and Infrastructure-as-Code.

• Previous experience supporting large-scale internet-facing enterprise applications.
