This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +1 more country.
• Create and spearhead Airalo's global public affairs strategy, ensuring alignment with business priorities and market expansion objectives.
• Establish the public affairs function by implementing processes, selecting external advisors and lobbying firms for each market, and eventually building a team around you.
• Design a proactive policy horizon scanner to foresee regulatory changes before they escalate into urgent issues.
• Directly engage with government ministries, telecom regulators (such as TRAIs, Anatel, OFCOM equivalents), and consumer protection organizations in key markets.
• Act as Airalo's representative in regulatory consultations, public hearings, parliamentary or congressional inquiries, and trade body working groups.
• Cultivate a trustworthy network of policymakers, civil servants, and industry peers who regard Airalo as a credible and constructive participant in the sector.
• Monitor and assess policy and regulatory developments across APAC, EMEA, LATAM, and North America.
• Formulate and uphold Airalo's policy positions on critical issues, including eSIM licensing, data privacy, consumer protection, digital markets regulation, and cross-border telecommunications.
• Build and nurture Airalo's relationships with industry associations (such as GSMA, MVNO associations, and digital economy coalitions) and influence our involvement in their policy initiatives.
• Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Communications, and Commercial teams to ensure that policy initiatives are integrated into wider business decision-making.
• Over 10 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, policy, or regulatory affairs — either in-house at a tech or telecom company or within a public affairs consultancy focused on this sector.
• Proven ability to influence regulatory outcomes and manage multi-jurisdictional government relations programs.
• In-depth knowledge of the telecom, digital economy, or platform regulation landscape.
• Capability to work independently as the first hire, establishing structure and processes without an immediate team.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• High political acumen: adept at framing Airalo's interests in ways that resonate with government stakeholders and not just internal audiences.
• Comfortable working remotely across various time zones in a fast-paced, commercially driven environment.
• Preferred: Experience managing external affairs agencies and consultants across multiple regions.
• Previous experience in establishing a public affairs function from the ground up.
