This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska, +7 more states.
• Oversee ŌURA's comprehensive global tax strategy (income, indirect, transfer pricing, and reporting) and create scalable tax structures to facilitate international growth and enhance the effective tax rate.
• Guide strategy and compliance for global indirect taxes, which include VAT, GST, sales tax, and digital services taxes.
• Work in collaboration with Product, Supply Chain, Legal, FP&A, and Finance teams to assess tax implications on new products, pricing, legal entities, and market entries.
• Develop and uphold global transfer pricing policies, intercompany agreements, and compliance documentation.
• Oversee external global tax advisors and manage tax audit requests, technical accounting analyses, and relationships with auditors.
• Monitor evolving global tax regulations to mitigate risks, while presenting tax strategy, risk assessments, and reporting to executive leadership and the Audit Committee.
• Collaborate cross-functionally on enterprise initiatives such as legal entity rationalization, restructurings, systems implementations and integrations, and other tax-related projects.
• Propel enhancements in tax processes to simplify, automate, and increase efficiency and quality in conjunction with Finance and IT teams.
• Manage the global tax provision process in accordance with US GAAP (ASC 740). Ensure that robust Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR / SOX 404) are designed, documented, and operational from the outset of being public.
• Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and regulators, ensuring smooth quarterly and annual reviews.
• Organize and supervise ŌURA's international IP allocation and transfer pricing strategies to optimize our global effective tax rate (ETR).
• Evaluate and structure the tax consequences of potential mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures, along with rapid global expansion efforts.
• Collaborate with Treasury to create and implement tax-efficient cash repatriation strategies for funding global operations.
• Lead the defense of all global tax audits, crafting responses to inquiries from the IRS, state agencies, and foreign tax authorities.
• Over 20 years of progressive tax leadership experience, including a minimum of 5 years within a high-growth technology (SaaS + Hardware) setting and multinational organization. Experience in Big 4 public accounting is highly desirable.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, with MST (Master of Science in Taxation), JD, or CPA being strongly preferred.
• Profound knowledge in U.S. federal, state, and international tax reporting, including tax accounting under US GAAP and ASC 740.
• Proven success in leading teams and managing complex cross-border issues, audits, and relationships with external service advisors.
• Strong history of collaboration across functions and providing support to executive leadership.
• Experience in financial reporting environments.
• IPO / Public Company Experience: Practical experience in preparing a company for public offerings and establishing SOX-compliant tax departments.
• Systems Acumen: Direct involvement in implementing or overseeing tax technology integrations.
