VP of Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Lead the engineering organization with a robust blend of strategic insight, technical expertise, and operational excellence.

• Define the vision for the engineering organization, ensuring alignment of structure, priorities, and execution with the overall company strategy.

• Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Security, and Executive leadership to influence the roadmap, investment choices, and company priorities.

• Build and nurture a high-performing leadership team encompassing engineering management and senior technical leaders.

• Establish an environment that enables teams to operate swiftly while upholding high standards for quality, reliability, and security.

• Spearhead the integration of modern AI-assisted and agentic development methodologies to enhance engineering effectiveness without incurring long-term risks.

• Set the guidelines, operational practices, and technical standards for the responsible use of coding agents in production software development.

• Promote engineering excellence across architecture, developer experience, observability, resilience, operational ownership, and platform maturity.

• Ensure that engineering is recognized as a reliable strategic partner throughout the business, known for its strong execution, sound judgment, and measurable impact.

• Manage the engineering budget, headcount planning, and resource allocation to facilitate both immediate delivery and long-term scalability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience leading engineering organizations at scale, including managing through managers and directors.

• Proven track record of building high-performing teams and coaching engineering leaders through periods of growth and transformation.

• Comfortable with hands-on involvement, assisting teams in making sound technical decisions, eliminating obstacles, and achieving significant outcomes.

• Strong technical credibility and the discernment to guide architecture, engineering quality, reliability, and platform evolution.

• Proficiency in AWS, React/NextJS, Java, and Python.

• Experience in modern SaaS, cloud-native, and product-oriented technology environments.

• A clear understanding of how AI-assisted and agentic development is transforming engineering, along with a pragmatic view of its advantages, risks, and trade-offs.

• Experience in establishing robust engineering systems: clear ownership, healthy operational rhythms, delivery discipline, technical standards, and effective cross-functional collaboration.

• Strong comprehension of production engineering challenges, including observability, incident management, resilience, security, and compliance.

• Exceptional communication abilities with the capacity to influence at all levels, from engineers to executives to board-level stakeholders.
