This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.
• Oversee, coach, and mentor a team of 4 to 5 engineers
• Promote career advancement, performance assessment, and professional development
• Cultivate a supportive and collaborative engineering environment
• Establish clarity and focus on team objectives, ensuring engineers prioritize high-impact tasks
• Align engineering initiatives with business objectives and the needs of clinical users
• Facilitate transparent communication across engineering, product, and design teams, managing expectations effectively
• Advocate for the engineering team while maintaining accountability to uphold high standards
• Ensure consistent, high-quality delivery of Clinical EMR features and enhancements
• Collaborate closely with Product and Design to clarify requirements, define scope, and prioritize tasks effectively
• Enhance execution through a flexible “Scrumban”-style planning and workflow approach
• Balance immediate delivery needs with long-term technical sustainability and system health
• Work alongside tech leads to guide architectural decisions, technical choices, and the evolution of the system
• Ensure careful management of technical debt and quality investments
• Coordinate with external vendors and internal teams on integrations, system resilience, and performance
• Regularly contribute code, including feature development, bug fixes, small refactors, and technical enhancements
• Engage in architecture discussions and provide input while relying on your team’s tech lead for primary direction
• 3+ years of experience managing engineering teams or serving as a tech lead/manager hybrid
• Proven success in developing engineers and fostering a healthy team culture
• Excellent communication, prioritization, and decision-making abilities
• Capability to bring clarity to ambiguous situations and maintain team focus on impactful results
• 8+ years of engineering experience with strong hands-on skills in modern web development (JavaScript, TypeScript, React, or similar technologies)
• Comfortable with regular code contributions, not as a full-time individual contributor, but as a reliable supporting developer
• Technically proficient enough to review pull requests, engage in pair programming, resolve issues, and contribute to architectural discussions
• Experience with cloud-based, scalable systems; AWS experience is preferred
