Virtual Special Education Teacher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Mexico.

📋 Description

• Support the execution of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student served.

• Draft IEPs promptly.

• Engage in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).

• Ensure all student records and files are maintained in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

• Complete all required documentation within designated timelines to ensure compliance.

• Prepare progress reports as necessary.

• Fulfill all aspects of required paperwork.

• Work one-on-one, in small groups, or in whole class settings with students.

• Administer Transition Assessments.

• Create lesson plans that align with the goals outlined in the student’s IEP.

• Teach all subjects in accordance with the school’s curriculum or as specified.

• Schedule and take part in IEP meetings and other gatherings for students with disabilities.

• Prepare and administer all standardized tests, benchmark assessments, and evaluations as instructed.

• Collaborate with teaching staff to enhance standardized and proficiency testing outcomes.

• Maintain confidentiality regarding all student information and professional matters.

• Keep precise records for each student, including grade books, progress reports, lesson plans, attendance records, and behavior/discipline records.

• Collaborate with parents, educators, psychologists, administrators, and outside professionals.

• Coordinate with Related Services to keep evaluations current, updated every three years.

• Provide resources for classroom teachers addressing areas of disability.

• Attend professional development sessions as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Preferred Master’s Degree.

• Current New Mexico certification/licensure in the relevant area.

• Minimum of three years of teaching experience, with at least two years in special education preferred.

• Strong knowledge in one or more subject areas.

• Familiarity with state proficiency testing.

• Understanding of and/or willingness to learn the MTSS process.

• Previous experience working with a diverse student population.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills that demonstrate professionalism and tact consistently.

• Genuine passion for teaching and care for children.

• Proficiency in computer applications, including Google Docs, MS Office Suite, email, and internet applications.

• Prior experience with software and databases that support compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), including Power School Special Programs.

• Capability to learn new technologies and skills through self-study, professional training, and mentorship from senior team members.

• Strong ability to collect, analyze, and interpret student data to inform sound educational decisions.

• Ability to manage confidential information responsibly and demonstrate sound judgment while maintaining confidentiality.

• Willingness to work occasional evenings.

• Valid driver’s license and capacity for occasional local and in-state travel.

• Ability to pass federal, state, and local background checks.

• Knowledge of co-teaching models and ability to co-teach effectively.
