This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of Legion's roadmap, architecture, and delivery in areas such as autonomy, mission software, C2, full-stack engineering, product design, and forward-deployed software.
• Lead and expand a team of engineers, project managers, and designers; establish organizational structure, hiring priorities, and team operating rhythm.
• Collaborate closely with the CEO, Aircraft and Mission teams, Customers, and Investors to shape product strategy, define requirements and roadmap, and ensure system integration.
• Set technical benchmarks for autonomy and swarm software, encompassing real-time systems, multi-agent coordination, and tools deployed in the field.
• Ensure rigorous engineering execution by overseeing sprint planning, code quality, system reliability, and release processes.
• Attract and retain outstanding software talent; create a recruitment strategy for Legion's next growth phase.
• Create feedback loops between engineering and field operations with Forward Deployed Engineers to continually enhance system performance in operational settings.
• Represent Legion during technical reviews, customer briefings, and program engagements.
• Promote the early adoption of cutting-edge AI tools within the Legion team and at team interfaces.
• Report directly to the CEO.
• Manage teams covering autonomy, mission software, full-stack engineering, forward-deployed engineering, product management, and design.
• Define the technical roadmap and product strategy, make architectural choices, scale the team, and shape Legion's operational methodology.
• A minimum of 10 years of software experience.
• At least 4 years of experience leading teams in complex technical environments.
• Proven ability to lead projects across SaaS, product, embedded systems, and autonomy software sectors.
• Experience in delivering software that operates under real-world constraints, including aerospace, robotics, defense, or related fields.
• Strong engineering and product intuition, with skills in code review, design assessment, challenging architectural decisions, defining requirements, and upholding high standards.
• A track record of scaling software organizations by hiring, developing, and retaining top talent.
• Capability to operate amidst uncertainty and act swiftly while maintaining reliability and safety.
• Excellent communication skills to unite cross-functional stakeholders.
• Success in integrating advanced AI tools within cross-functional teams.
• Background in autonomous systems, unmanned vehicles, or multi-agent software architectures.
• Experience with defense programs, government clients, or ITAR-controlled development settings.
• Familiarity with ROS, PX4, or real-time embedded software environments.
• Active security clearance or prior experience in a cleared development environment.
• Entrepreneurial experience, such as being a startup founder.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Must meet citizenship criteria to qualify for a U.S. security clearance.
• Ability to acquire or maintain work authorization without the need for visa sponsorship, as specified in the application form.
