Vice President of Development, External Affairs Strategy, Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Provides strategic and operational guidance for Upstream’s Development and External Affairs department.

• Ensures the implementation of systems, planning processes, and team collaboration to meet revenue objectives.

• Directs the operational strategy for the Development & External Affairs team.

• Aligns donor engagement strategies with the overall organizational strategy.

• Manages team systems and operational functions.

• Monitors progress towards objectives and suggests necessary adjustments.

• Oversees fundraising initiatives and donor communications.

• Manages operational prioritization and donor engagement tactics.

• Establishes annual operating plan goals and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the team.

• Facilitates training to enhance transformational fundraising capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• 12-15+ years of progressive experience in development, external affairs, revenue strategy, or a closely related field.

• Proven success as a senior operating leader responsible for enterprise-level strategy, systems, planning, performance management, and cross-team collaboration.

• Experience on a development team that has successfully secured eight- or nine-figure (transformational) gifts.

• Demonstrated expertise in designing and managing investor relations, external affairs, and major gift strategies through teams.

• Strong history of leading and developing senior leaders across various development-related functions.

• Proven experience in close collaboration with C-suite executives and boards.

• Exceptional executive presence, credibility, and sound judgment.

• Ability to function as a buffer and integrator.

• Experience in building or overseeing training, enablement, and content systems that enhance executive presence and donor communications.

• Comprehensive understanding of fundraising operating models.

• Proven capability to assess strategic trade-offs and allocate limited resources effectively.
