Vice President – AI Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Define Alight's AI strategy and convert it into a targeted portfolio.

• Determine where Alight should build, partner, acquire, or cease investment.

• Manage AI investments to optimize cost per outcome.

• Advance the AI reference architecture to establish the operating standard.

• Design an operational model that balances enterprise standards with agility and ownership.

• Lead the development of a reusable platform for secure, reliable, and repeatable AI operations.

• Oversee foundations for agentic systems, orchestration, retrieval, knowledge access, and model selection.

• Direct evaluation, observability, and integration with enterprise data and services.

• Establish the AI Development Lifecycle incorporating standards, testing, security, and quality checkpoints.

• Deliver agentic AI-enhanced benefits experiences that assist participants in understanding and acting on their benefits.

• Take ownership of outcomes from deployment through adoption, reliability, and user experience.

• Scale intelligent automation across intricate operational processes while maintaining human oversight.

• Integrate responsible AI practices into solution design, evaluation, release, monitoring, and improvement.

• Collaborate with risk, security, privacy, legal, and compliance leaders on AI controls.

• Recruit, mentor, and lead a premier AI organization.

• Represent Alight's AI strategy to clients, partners, executives, and the wider market.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated technology and AI leadership with tangible systems developed, significant organizations managed, and accountability for business results.

• Experience in leading a multi-team AI, machine learning, software, or platform organization alongside senior leaders.

• Proven track record of deploying AI or complex technology products into production for a large user base, demonstrating measurable value.

• Current expertise in generative AI, large language models, agentic systems, retrieval, evaluation, and production AI engineering.

• Experience in developing shared platforms or foundational capabilities utilized by various product and engineering teams.

• Background in managing a significant investment portfolio or budget and making build, buy, and partner decisions.

• Experience working in a regulated, high-trust environment.

• Practical knowledge of AI risk, privacy, security, and lifecycle governance.

• Experience in recruiting and nurturing senior technical leaders.

• Essential technical expertise in architecture, evaluation methods, and production-ready systems.

• Successful completion of a background check upon job offer.

• Work authorization in the employing country without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.

• Capability to participate in virtual video interviews and occasional travel to a physical office location.
