This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.

📋 Description

• Evaluate code submitted by other engineers to ensure quality standards

• Develop clean and scalable console control systems

• Analyze performance on target platforms and enhance the game or engine accordingly

• Conduct tests on updated code across target platforms to ensure accuracy and performance

• Independently design, test, and debug code

• Decompose large features into engineering tasks and collaborate with engineers for completion

• Guide engineers on best practices in software development

• Estimate task durations and ensure timely delivery

• Communicate any blockers to the project lead

• Test and document solutions for developer review and knowledge sharing

• Take ownership of significant sections of the codebase and complex, mission-critical features

• Collaborate with non-engineering team members to implement features

• Assess feature feasibility and propose effective solutions

• Provide programming expertise for major features and architectural recommendations

• Perform code review analysis to identify potential design and implementation issues

• Work on projects utilizing Unreal Engine 4 and 5 for next-generation consoles


⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of professional experience with Unreal Engine

• Experience in releasing games on consoles

• Proficient in C++

• Capability to thoroughly analyze and enhance Unreal Engine

• Ability to independently design, test, and debug code

• Skill in breaking down large features into manageable engineering tasks

• Experience mentoring engineers in software development best practices

• Passion for developing games and tools

• Strong communication skills with all company members

• Competence in estimating tasks and delivering them on schedule

• Ability to write clear, maintainable, and efficient code

• Implementation of software engineering best practices throughout the software development lifecycle

• Willingness to take ownership of large codebase areas and critical features

• Ability to coordinate efforts outside of the engineering team

• Skill in assessing feature feasibility and recommending solutions

• University degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or significant relevant experience

• For Japan-based candidates: 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, 2+ years with Unreal Engine 4, and 2+ years developing console games using test kits and development kits

• For overseas candidates: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, 6+ years with Unreal Engine 4, and 6+ years developing console games using test kits and development kits

• Strong software engineering skills and understanding of coding patterns

• Extensive C++ and Unreal Engine debugging experience

• Familiarity with source code management systems such as Git, SVN, or Perforce

• At least conversational proficiency in Japanese (JLPT N3 or higher)

• Proficient in English for reading, writing, and discussing technical topics

• Preferred skills: C#, Ruby, Python, shell scripting, Unreal Engine build pipeline, experience with other game engines, and at least one released game
