This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.

📋 Description

• Begin each day by reviewing code submitted by fellow engineers to ensure it aligns with quality standards.

• Develop clean and scalable control systems for console platforms.

• Assess performance on target platforms and make necessary adjustments to the game or engine to enhance it.

• Conduct tests on updated code across target platforms to validate correctness and performance.

• Estimate the duration of tasks and complete them within the set timelines.

• Write clear and maintainable code that successfully passes reviews conducted by senior engineers.

• Communicate issues to the project lead effectively.

• Test and document solutions for the benefit of other developers to review and learn from.

• Implement and uphold software engineering best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Take ownership of expansive areas within the codebase and manage large, intricate features.

• Maintain responsibility for mission-critical sections of the codebase.

• Collaborate with team members outside the engineering department to ensure timely feature delivery.

• Evaluate the feasibility of substantial features and suggest appropriate solutions.

• Offer programming expertise for proposals related to large features and architecture.

• Analyze code reviews to foresee potential design and implementation challenges.

• Engage in exciting projects for next-generation consoles at Wizcorp, a specialized game development studio based in Tokyo.


⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of professional experience working with Unreal Engine.

• Proven experience in releasing console games.

• Proficiency in C++ and Unreal Engine.

• Eagerness to work intensively with and enhance the engine itself.

• Capability to independently design, test, and debug one’s own code.

• Skill in breaking down large features into engineering tasks and completing them in collaboration with others.

• Ability to mentor engineers in software development best practices.

• Interest in contributing to both the game itself and its development tools.

• Strong communication skills to interact confidently with all internal team members.

• Competence in writing clean, readable, high-performance code and architecting based on it.

• Excellent debugging and optimization abilities.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Solid software development skills, including design theory and development processes.

• Effective personal time-management skills.

• Comprehensive knowledge of end-to-end software development.

• Experience with Unreal Online Subsystem or customization of Unreal Engine internal systems.

• Experience developing for PlayStation and/or Microsoft platforms, as well as familiarity with Nintendo, PC, or mobile platforms.

• A university degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• For candidates based in Japan: 3+ years of software engineering experience, 2+ years of professional experience with Unreal Engine 4, and 2+ years of console game development experience, including work with test and development kits.

• For candidates residing overseas: 7+ years of software engineering experience, 6+ years of professional experience with Unreal Engine 4, and 6+ years of console game development experience, including work with test and development kits.

• Strong software engineering aptitude and knowledge of coding patterns.

• Extensive debugging experience with C++ and Unreal Engine.

• Familiarity with source code management systems like Git, SVN, or Perforce.

• Proficiency in Japanese at a conversational level or higher (JLPT N3 or above).

• English proficiency sufficient to read, write, and discuss technical subjects.

• Preferred: experience with C#, Ruby, Python, shell scripting, Unreal Engine build pipelines, Unity or proprietary engines, and at least one published game title.
