• Lead, mentor, and cultivate a high-achieving underwriting team; establish clear expectations and performance benchmarks.
• Take responsibility for underwriting quality and credit consistency across RTL originations (fix & flip, bridge, investor loans).
• Supervise loan-level assessments, including borrower experience, liquidity, background, and credit profile.
• Ensure compliance with credit guidelines while applying sound judgment in exceptional and complex situations.
• Collaborate with Sales, Valuations, Closing, and Capital Markets to enhance speed, conversion, and borrower experience.
• Track portfolio performance, identify risk patterns, and suggest modifications to guidelines or credit policies.
• Propel operational excellence through process enhancements, workflow design, and LOS/system upgrades (Decipher).
• Convert feedback from investors and warehouse partners into underwriting and process enhancements.
• Recruit, train, and expand the underwriting team as the platform scales nationally.
• Uphold the Company’s underwriting guidelines, policies, procedures, and workflows, as well as federal and state regulatory requirements to guarantee compliance at all times.
• Over 3 years of underwriting experience in residential transition lending (fix & flip, bridge, DSCR, or investor loans).
• More than 1 year of direct people management experience.
• Extensive knowledge in RTL credit: ARV/LTV/LTC, rehab budgets, borrower track record, and exit analysis.
• Strong judgment skills in handling complex credit scenarios and exceptions.
• Demonstrated ability to build and scale underwriting teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience in driving process improvements and implementing underwriting systems/LOS platforms.
• Excellent analytical and data-driven decision-making abilities.
• Outstanding cross-functional leadership and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree is required.
