• Evaluate and scrutinize underwriting decisions, procedures, and tools to ensure adherence to high-quality standards.
• Assess inforce policies for potential rescission by evaluating the implications of new information on underwriting choices.
• Monitor application and claims trends, proactively addressing potential risks.
• Provide expert insights to legal teams concerning cases in litigation.
• Foster innovation by proposing new strategies and controls for risk management.
• Track and analyze critical risk indicators to guide strategic decision-making.
• Prepare detailed reports for senior leadership and external stakeholders.
• Offer educational programs and research initiatives to enhance underwriting proficiency.
• Collaborate with analytics teams to incorporate advanced insights into risk management practices.
• Lead risk management initiatives and mentor developing talent.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams—Sales, Compliance, Legal—to promote effective collaboration and strengthen the underwriting risk management function.
• Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including reinsurers.
• A minimum of 7 years of underwriting experience with significant approval authority.
• Thorough understanding of individual insurance products and their operational aspects.
• Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerBI, PowerPoint).
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
• A growth-oriented mindset and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledgeable in medical science and its effects on mortality and morbidity.
• Bilingualism in English and French is highly desirable, and required in Québec to assist clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.
