
Tutor/Marker – Foundations of Critical Thinking, Digital Proficiency

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.
• Assessment Evaluation
• Evaluate application-based assignments and/or examination scripts following established rubrics and marking protocols.
• Deliver written feedback that is constructive, detailed, and clearly connected to the assessment criteria and module learning outcomes.
• Consistently apply marking criteria across all student submissions, encompassing relevance and content accuracy; quality of analysis and synthesis; depth of critical thought; creativity and originality; standards of academic writing; adherence to instructions; and proper engagement with digital tools and concepts.
• Quality Assurance and Moderation
• Follow Lyceum College’s institutional quality assurance standards throughout the marking process.
• Attend pre-marking calibration and post-marking moderation sessions as needed.
• Implement moderation feedback and adjust marking as directed by the Course Coordinator.
• Record-Keeping and Reporting
• Keep accurate and complete records of marks given and feedback provided for each student script or portfolio.
• Submit mark sheets and marked scripts by agreed deadlines, utilizing Lyceum College’s designated systems.
• Report any suspected academic misconduct, such as plagiarism or collusion, to the Course Coordinator promptly and in line with institutional policy.
• Professional Conduct
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student assessment information at all times.
• Engage professionally and responsively with the Course Coordinator regarding queries on assessment criteria or marking decisions.
• Comply with all institutional policies, including the Academic Integrity Policy, Assessment Policy, and Code of Conduct for Independent Contractors.
• A Bachelor’s degree with Honours, or a postgraduate qualification (Master’s preferred), in Education, Philosophy, Critical Thinking, ICT in Education, Digital Literacy, Information Science, Communication, in the Liberal Arts or a closely related field.
• Demonstrable experience in teaching, tutoring, or providing academic support in higher education, particularly in relation to academic literacy, critical thinking, argumentation, or digital proficiency.
• Proven experience in marking undergraduate academic assignments, with the capacity to consistently apply rubrics and provide constructive written feedback.
• Solid working knowledge of critical thinking frameworks, including Bloom’s Taxonomy, the Paul-Elder Framework, and logical argumentation models.
• Familiarity with digital literacy concepts, such as information evaluation, responsible digital citizenship, cybersecurity fundamentals, and the ethical use of AI in academic contexts.
• Strong written communication skills, demonstrating high standards of accuracy, professionalism, and meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, effectively manage personal workload, and meet strict marking deadlines without ongoing supervision.
• This is a marking-only position.
• Marking will be conducted remotely.
• Access to the Moodle platform will be granted for the duration of the marking cycle.
• Renewal of the contract for future cycles is contingent upon satisfactory performance and institutional requirements.
