This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the technical lead or study manager for transmission planning projects, overseeing scope, schedule, quality, and client relationships.
• Conduct steady-state load flow and contingency assessments for utility transmission planning and interconnection evaluations.
• Carry out transient stability and dynamic simulation analyses, encompassing both conventional generation and inverter-based resources.
• Direct generation and large load interconnection impact assessments across regional transmission networks.
• Formulate and evaluate long-term transmission expansion strategies addressing load growth, generation retirement, renewable development, and infrastructure requirements.
• Assist with compliance related to FERC Order 1920 proactive transmission planning and Order 2023 interconnection reform initiatives.
• Execute studies and evaluations in line with NERC reliability standards, including TPL-001, FAC-001/002, TOP-001, and various MOD series standards.
• Author and perform quality assurance on technical study reports for regulatory submissions, client deliverables, and interconnection applications.
• Create Python-based tools and automation for study execution, model management, and output quality assurance.
• Guide and mentor junior and mid-level engineers through technical reviews and collaborative efforts.
• Engage in business development activities through proposal writing, scope creation, client presentations, and identifying new opportunities.
• Keep abreast of FERC policies, regional planning standards, and trends in grid technology to enhance client strategies and internal capabilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in transmission planning, power system evaluations, or related electrical engineering fields.
• Preferred: 5 to 8+ years of experience in transmission planning, power system analyses, or related electrical engineering disciplines.
• Practical experience with PSS/E, PSLF, or similar transmission planning software.
• Proven experience in leading or managing technical study projects as the primary contact.
• EIT or PE registration, or actively pursuing licensure.
• Understanding of regional ISOs/RTOs and their interconnection processes and planning criteria.
• Experience with IBR and BESS dynamic modeling in accordance with NERC MOD-026/027/031/032/033.
• Knowledge of long-range transmission expansion planning methodologies and scenario-based planning frameworks.
• Experience conducting large load interconnection studies for data centers, hyperscalers, industrial clients, or other high-demand sectors.
• Proficient in Python for automating power system studies, managing models, and handling data workflows.
• Experience with short circuit analysis using ASPEN, CAPE, or ETAP.
• Familiarity with electromagnetic transient software such as PSCAD or EMTP.
• Strong technical writing skills and the ability to convey complex results clearly to non-engineering audiences and utility executives.
