This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Conduct research, compose, and refine technical reports, magazine articles, newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, user manuals, and various research communication materials.
• Partner with engineers, researchers, and subject matter experts to convey intricate technical and engineering ideas to both technical and general audiences.
• Execute substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading throughout the production process.
• Confirm technical accuracy through interviews, research, and fact-checking, incorporating tables, schematics, and figures into the narrative text.
• Ensure that content adheres to the GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, and TFHRC RD&T Communication Reference Guide.
• Uphold Section 508 accessibility compliance and oversee copyright permissions and attributions.
• Manage assigned documents and articles from outlines and interviews through review cycles to final publication, ensuring version control is maintained.
• Facilitate review and approval processes with FHWA contacts and external stakeholders as required.
• 5–10 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, and publishing.
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or a related scientific/technical discipline.
• Proven expertise in applying the GPO Style Manual and Chicago Manual of Style.
• Experience ensuring compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards.
• Experience in supporting complex projects and transformational initiatives within the federal government.
• Capability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
• Proficiency in managing competing deadlines.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
• Comfort in managing complex client relationships.
• Preferred experience in the transportation sector, particularly in highway or surface transportation research.
• Strong analytical and time-management capabilities.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, collaborate, and communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.
