Technical Marketing Engineer – Photonics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Define use cases for the scaling of optical interconnect and switch/router families.

• Educate the Sales Engineering team on configurations for deploying optical interconnects.

• Develop tools for mixed-rate interconnect setups.

• Maintain documentation related to Data Center and Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence deployment scenarios.

• Create web-based applications for the Arista product family.

• Assist engineering with technical configurations for conferences.

• Write and uphold Python scripts for test automation.

• Set up and execute optical and electrical testing.

• Analyze test data to uncover trends and enhance reliability.

• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and operations teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.

• A PhD in Photonics and/or an MBA is preferred.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in Optical Networking and DWDM design and deployment is required.

• Knowledge of DWDM signal propagation and simulation, along with multi-span amplified systems, is advantageous.

• Excellent writing and presentation abilities.

• Strong practical expertise in Ethernet, DWDM, and Coherent Optical Technologies.

• Hands-on experience with optical testing equipment such as OTDR, OSA, BERT, optical power meters, and oscilloscopes, coupled with proficient troubleshooting skills.

• Extensive experience with traffic generators and network protocol analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark, Ixia, Spirent).

• Previous experience in system testing, scripting (e.g., Python, TCL), and/or new product introductions (NPI).

• Demonstrated experience in testing Coherent and IMDD Transponders/Transceivers, Optical Amplifiers, Optical Mux/Demux, and other components of optical systems.

• Understanding of performance monitoring metrics, including Pre-FEC BER, OSNR, Chromatic Dispersion (CD), and Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD).

• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
